So I created this blog a couple of weeks ago and this is my first post. I am a horrible blogger. I think this is the fourth blog account I have created and I never keep up with any of them. I just can't get into this blogging. Perhaps its because I have three young children and time seems to lack but maybe this is the exact reason I should blog. To have some kind of record of my thoughts and ideas but then I am afraid that it will be just a waste of time because I don't know if any of the current blog sites will be around in 40 years and all my thoughts that I thought I was recording will just be gone.
When my grandma died we were going through all her belongings and found her diary from when she was sixteen. I treasure that diary....but would I have been able to read all of the stuff she had written in it if it was done online. I guess I could print off every blog posting I create and keep it in a binder but then to me it seems impersonal.
For the time being I will do my best to keep up with blogging and reading others blogs. Maybe my thoughts will change on blogging.

Thanks for your honest thoughts. I'd say this blogging may not be for everyone but I do think sharing ideas globally should be for every teacher. Blogging happens to be the easiest most popular way to share but need not be for everyone.
I heard some great discussion this past week about public/private life. Food for thought for me. Hopefully I'll have a chance to share it.
One thing to consider is that finding an audience tends to be the biggest motivation to continue blogging. Audience leads to connections and that is the key. The tough part is becoming vulnerable to comment on others' work and sharing your ideas. This takes time. I'd encourage you even to use it to catalogue ideas and links that you can harvest later.
For this class, my purpose was to see blogging as a connecting tool. Anyone can create a blog, it's not hard but not everyone can harness it's ability to connect. Be sure to go to your classmates blogs and leave comments, encouragement or ideas.

I agree with Dean when he thanks you for your honesty about blogging. It is refreshing!
I have been blogging for about 5 years and it has been the best professional development for me. I also have other reasons to appreciate blogging and when you mentioned finding your grandma's diary and how you treasured it I thought of my mother. She started a blog when she was 85! She blogged from January to June of 2004. (http://stormy.blogs.com/vera/) Sadly she became ill with cancer in July and died in August 2004. I treasure her blog. There's lots of ways to keep copies of digital files for the future.
Anyway I hope you will consider continuing to blog! You are a good writer and sharing the ups and downs of learning helps others as well as yourself. The possibilities for blogging are limitless.
